What is Green Commute Initiative?

The Green Commute Initiative is a Social Enterprise with a vision to get commuters out of cars and onto any kind of bike, with the dual purpose of improving both the individual’s health and wellbeing, as well as reducing the environmental impact of pollution and congestion from cars.  We do this through our cycle to work scheme.

CAN I TAKE PART?

As long as you’re on PAYE and your employer agrees to run the scheme then you’ll be able to benefit!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Green Commute Initiative (GCI) facilitate you owning any bike at any cost from LIOS. You sacrifice some of your salary. Because you’re not paying tax or National Insurance on the amount of the bike, you’ll make a substantial saving (32-47% dependent on your tax bracket). Try our calculator below to see what you could save.

CAN I HAVE A BIKE OVER £1,000?

Yes, subject to your employer’s consent, you can have any value bike including custom bikes. There’s no need for top ups of deposits and you’ll make savings on the whole value of the bike.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

Choose your bike from us then complete a pro-forma invoice and pass it to your employer. Once your employer pays GCI the invoice value and you sign the agreements, GCI will then pay us and send you a ‘collection voucher’. You then use this voucher to get your bike from us! In return for the bike, you sacrifice some of your salary at source. Because you’re not paying tax or NI on this amount, you’ll make substantial savings of between 32% and 47% dependent on your tax bracket. Your employer saves too!…see below.

Employer’s Notes

An Employee Benefit with NO COSTS! There are no additional charges to run the GCI Cycle to Work Scheme. In fact you save 13.8% on reduced employer’s NICs.

Minimal Administration. GCI manage pretty much all of the admin for the employer. You’ll just need to let your payroll know the salary sacrifice information.

Thought there was a £1,000 Limit? For traditional Cycle to Work Schemes (C2W) there is a limit, but GCI works differently. GCI is authorised and regulated by the FCA to run a C2W scheme to any value. This means your organisation doesn’t need to have FCA authorisation.

What about HMRC? GCI is fully compliant with HMRC regulations and guidance.

Work for a public body? GCI has a framework agreement, so no need to go to tender.
